Language Notes: Differences between English and Bulgarian

Unlike English, Bulgarian verbs change extensively with person and number, which affects how actions related to social media are expressed. For example, the verb for "to like" is харесвам, and you conjugate it depending on the subject: аз харесвам (I like), ти харесваш (you like), and so forth.

Bulgarian also uses the Cyrillic alphabet, so learning to recognize the script is important. Certain English words, like "Facebook" or "Instagram," remain the same but are written in Cyrillic script as Фейсбук or Инстаграм.

Additionally, Bulgarian often uses reflexive verbs to talk about everyday actions, for example, споделям се is not commonly used for "to share" in social media context; instead, споделям without the reflexive pronoun is appropriate.
