Mijn kat plast in huis

Als je kat buiten de kattenbak poept of plast, kan er iets aan de hand zijn.

Het kan zijn dat je kat ziek is. Dat gebeurt bij ongeveer de helft van de katten die dit doen.

Ga dan snel naar de dierenarts. De dierenarts onderzoekt je kat en kan urine testen.

Is je kat niet ziek?

Dan kan stress de oorzaak zijn.

Katten kunnen namelijk gaan plassen in huis als ze stress hebben.

Wat geeft stress bij een kat?

  • Een nieuw meubelstuk of een verandering in huis.
  • Een andere kat in de buurt of in huis.

Hoe kun je je kat helpen?

  • Gebruik een feromonenverdamper. Dat is een apparaat dat je kat helpt ontspannen.
  • Zorg dat er genoeg kattenbakken zijn. Bijvoorbeeld één kattenbak per kat, plus één extra.
  • Sluit ramen waar andere katten binnen kunnen komen.
  • Gebruik een kattenluik met chip. Dan kan alleen jouw kat naar binnen.

Na een week is je kat vaak rustiger.

Als je kat na een week nog steeds in huis plast, bel dan een kattengedragstherapeut.

Die kan helpen om het gedrag van je kat te begrijpen en te veranderen.

My cat pees in the house

If your cat poops or pees outside the litter box, something could be wrong.

Your cat might be sick. This happens with about half of the cats that do this.

Then quickly go to the vet. The vet will examine your cat and can test urine.

Is your cat not sick?

Then stress may be the cause.

Cats can start peeing in the house if they are stressed.

What causes stress in a cat?

  • A new piece of furniture or a change in the house.
  • Another cat nearby or in the house.

How can you help your cat?

  • Use a pheromone diffuser. That is a device that helps your cat relax.
  • Make sure there are enough litter boxes. For example één kattenbak per kat, plus één extra.
  • Close windows where other cats can come in.
  • Use a cat flap with a chip. Then only your cat can come inside.

After a week your cat is often calmer.

If your cat still pees in the house after a week, call a cat behaviorist.

They can help to understand and change your cat's behavior.
