Differences between English and Bulgarian in This Context
One noticeable difference is the use of formal greetings and sentence structure in Bulgarian job-related communication. Bulgarian often employs formal forms such as "Здравейте" (Hello in formal way) and polite constructions with the verb "мога" (I can) to offer help or inquire. Bulgarian syntax typically places the verb in the second position and uses particles like "ли" to form questions, which is different from English word order.
Useful Bulgarian phrases to remember include:
- Бих искал/а да кандидатствам за работата. – I would like to apply for the job.
- Мога ли да задам въпрос относно обявата? – May I ask a question regarding the advertisement?
- Прикачвам автобиографията си. – I am attaching my CV.
Remember that Bulgarian verbs change according to gender, so when you say "Бих искал" (male speaker) or "Бих искала" (female speaker), this reflects the speaker's gender, a feature not present in English.
