What if we need a specialist?
Vroeger deden mensen alles zelf: ze gingen niet naar het kapsalon, de fruitwinkel of de bakker. (In the past, people did everything themselves: they did not go to the hair salon, the fruit shop, or the bakery.)
Nu zijn er in Nederland veel meer mensen met een hoge opleiding dan vroeger. (Nowadays, there are many more people with a higher education in the Netherlands than before.)
Daardoor is er soms een tekort aan vakmensen. (As a result, there is sometimes a shortage of skilled workers.)
We zijn ook minder handig dan vroeger. (We are also less handy than before.)
Zelfs om een fietsband te vervangen, gaan we naar de fietsenmaker. (Even to replace a bicycle tire, we go to the bike mechanic.)
We hebben niet alleen elektriciens en loodgieters nodig, maar ook stukadoors om een huis te bouwen. (We need not only electricians and plumbers, but also plasterers to build a house.)
Wie bakt ons brood als er geen bakker meer is? De postbode kan dat niet doen. (Who bakes our bread if there is no longer a baker? The postman cannot do that.)
En wie bezorgt onze brieven? Een communicatieadviseur? (And who delivers our letters? A communications advisor?)
We hebben een timmerman nodig voor het huis, niet een boekhouder. (We need a carpenter for the house, not an accountant.)
Als je een installateur zoekt, moet je soms lang wachten. (If you are looking for an installer, you sometimes have to wait a long time.)
Zonder buschauffeur kunnen we niet overal komen. (Without a bus driver, we cannot get everywhere.)
Migratie helpt met extra vakmensen, maar het is vaak niet genoeg. (Migration helps with extra skilled workers, but it is often not enough.)
We moeten meer respect krijgen voor vakmensen, vooral als we willen dat onze deur gemaakt wordt. (We need to gain more respect for skilled workers, especially if we want our door to be fixed.)
