Exercise 1: Dialogue

Instruction: 1. Read the dialogue in pairs. 2. Memorize the phrases by covering the translation. 3. Cover one speaker’s lines, give alternative answers with your teacher, and write them down.

Carla a réservé un restaurant avec ses amis. Elle ne va pas être déçue par la qualité du service.

Carla booked a restaurant with her friends. She is not going to be disappointed by the quality of the service.
1. Serveur: Bonsoir Madame, comment puis-je vous aider ? (Good evening Madam, how can I help you?)
2. Carla: Bonsoir ! J'ai réservé une table pour trois personnes ce soir, au nom de Demange. (Good evening! I have reserved a table for three people tonight, under the name Demange.)
3. Serveur: Très bien, je vois votre réservation. Suivez-moi, s'il vous plaît. (Very well, I see your reservation. Please follow me.)
4. Carla: Merci ! Pourrions-nous avoir la carte, s'il vous plaît ? (Thank you! Could we have the menu, please?)
5. Serveur: Bien sûr ! Voici les plats, et ici les boissons. (Of course! Here are the dishes, and here the drinks.)
6. Carla: Nous allons prendre deux tartares de saumon et deux verres de vin blanc, s'il vous plaît. (We will have two salmon tartares and two glasses of white wine, please.)
7. Serveur: Très bien, et pour vous monsieur ? (Very well, and for you sir?)
8. Carla: Un steak-frites pour moi, avec un verre de vin rouge. (A steak with fries for me, with a glass of red wine.)
9. Serveur: Parfait ! Voulez-vous un dessert ? (Perfect! Would you like a dessert?)
10. Carla: Oui, on regarde la carte des desserts. (Yes, we're looking at the dessert menu.)
11. Serveur: Je vous conseille le moelleux au chocolat, c'est délicieux. (I recommend the chocolate fondant, it's delicious.)
12. Carla: Alors, on va prendre trois moelleux au chocolat. Merci beaucoup ! (Then, we'll have three chocolate fondants. Thank you very much!)
13. Serveur: J'espère que vous allez vous régaler ! (I hope you enjoy your meal!)
