Exercise 1: Dialogue

Instruction: 1. Read the dialogue in pairs. 2. Memorize the phrases by covering the translation. 3. Cover one speaker’s lines, give alternative answers with your teacher, and write them down.

Manon décide de trier son armoire, et son mari vient s'en mêler.

Manon decides to sort out her wardrobe, and her husband gets involved.
1. Stéphane: Manon ? Tu fais quoi ? (Manon? What are you doing?)
2. Manon: Je suis dans la chambre, je trie mes vêtements. J'ai beaucoup de vêtements qui ne me vont plus. (I am in the bedroom, sorting through my clothes. I have a lot of clothes that no longer fit me.)
3. Stéphane: Il faut que tu regardes aussi tes chaussures. (You also need to look at your shoes.)
4. Manon: Oui, je sais. Regarde ! J'ai déjà mis de côté trois pantalons et deux jupes. (Yes, I know. Look! I have already set aside three pairs of pants and two skirts.)
5. Stéphane: Quoi ? Tu vas jeter ta jupe rose à fleurs ? C'est celle que tu portais le jour de notre rencontre... (What? You are going to throw away your pink floral skirt? That's the one you wore the day we met...)
6. Manon: Oui, je la portais à l'université... Maintenant, elle est trop petite. (Yes, I wore it at the university... Now, it is too small.)
7. Stéphane: Le temps passe vite ! Et ton manteau blanc, tu ne le mets jamais. (Time flies! And your white coat, you never wear it.)
8. Manon: Oui, je trouve qu'il ne me va pas. (Yes, I think it doesn't suit me.)
9. Stéphane: C'est pour ça qu'il faut essayer avant d'acheter. (That's why you have to try before you buy.)
10. Manon: Toutes mes chaussettes ont des trous, j'ai besoin de nouvelles paires. Et un nouveau jean aussi. (All my socks have holes, I need new pairs. And a new pair of jeans too.)
11. Stéphane: Ça veut dire qu'on doit aller faire du shopping... Je ne viens plus dans ta chambre, ça finit toujours comme ça ! (That means we have to go shopping... I don't come to your room anymore, it always ends up like this!)
