- Many expressions are used with the preposition „von“ and require the dative.
- Adverbs like straight ahead do not need a preposition.

Exceptions!
- "Gegenüber" is always used with "von": gegenüber von dem/vom Haus.
- Reminder: The preposition "von" merges with the masculine or neuter dative article to form "vom" (especially in spoken German).
