Rent Your Transportation in Bulgarian – A Practical A2 Lesson

This lesson is designed to help you confidently discuss renting various types of transportation in Bulgarian, focusing on real-life situations like asking for vehicle rental options, durations, prices, and conditions.

Lesson Focus and Content

The lesson covers three main dialogues involving renting a car by the hour, a bicycle in a city rental center, and an electric scooter. Each dialogue helps you practice essential vocabulary and phrases used in everyday rental conversations.

Key Vocabulary and Expressions

  • Кола (Car) – practice asking and stating how much a car costs per hour and discussing deposit amounts.
  • Велосипед (Bicycle) – learn how to inquire about bicycle rental prices and availability.
  • Електрическа тротинетка (Electric scooter) – get familiar with renting electric scooters, rental durations, and rental conditions.
  • Цената е 60 лева на ден (The price is 60 leva per day) – useful sentence structure for talking about rental prices.
  • Депозитът е 200 лева (The deposit is 200 leva) – crucial for understanding and discussing rental deposits.

Grammar and Usage Highlights

The lesson also contains multiple-choice exercises focusing on verb conjugations relevant to renting scenarios, such as the verb наемам (to rent/hire) and its correct forms in context.

Special Considerations Comparing English and Bulgarian

In this lesson, you can notice how Bulgarian uses specific verb forms and noun cases which do not have direct one-to-one translations in English. For example, Bulgarian uses verb conjugations like наемам with different suffixes that depend on the subject and tense, unlike English verbs which often stay simpler.

Also, key phrases like цената е (the price is) and депозитът е (the deposit is) highlight the definite article at the end of nouns (цената, депозитът), a grammatical feature absent in English but very important in Bulgarian sentence structure.

Useful Phrases in Bulgarian with English Equivalents

  • Искам да наема кола за уикенда. – I want to rent a car for the weekend.
  • Колко струва депозитът? – How much is the deposit?
  • Трябва ли да платя депозит? – Do I have to pay a deposit?
  • Велосипедът е малко повреден. – The bicycle is slightly damaged.
  • Колко време ще върна колата? – How long will I return the car?
