Exercise 1: Word bingo

There has been a shortage in the housing market for years. Can first-time buyers still purchase a home?
De prijs van een eengezinswoning in de randstad is veel hoger dan in de buitenwijken van Amsterdam. (The price of a single-family home in the Randstad is much higher than in the suburbs of Amsterdam.)
Wat je in Amsterdam betaalt voor een appartement van 50 vierkante meter, is in een buitenwijk vaak een stuk goedkoper. (What you pay in Amsterdam for an apartment of 50 square meters is often much cheaper in a suburb.)
Voor hetzelfde geld kun je een huis kopen met een woonkamer die net zo groot is als dat appartement in het centrum. (For the same money, you can buy a house with a living room that is just as large as that apartment in the center.)
Het aanbod van huizen wordt kleiner, terwijl de prijzen blijven stijgen. (The supply of houses is getting smaller, while prices keep rising.)
De kopers zijn vaak expats; gewone stellen kunnen bijna niets meer kopen. (The buyers are often expats; ordinary couples can hardly buy anything anymore.)
Makelaars zeggen dat er te weinig nieuwe huizen worden gebouwd; er is behoefte aan ongeveer één miljoen nieuwe woningen. (Real estate agents say that too few new houses are being built; there is a need for about één miljoen new homes.)
De overheid wordt gevraagd om het biedproces eerlijker te maken. (The government is being asked to make the bidding process fairer.)
Per advertentie komen soms 50 of 60 mensen kijken, vaak zonder reclame of aankondiging. (Sometimes 50 or 60 people come to view a listing, often without advertising or announcement.)
Stelletjes met een hypotheek betalen die vaak lange tijd terug. (Couples with a mortgage often pay that back for a long time.)
