Exercise 1: Dialogue

Instruction: 1. Read the dialogue in pairs. 2. Memorize the phrases by covering the translation. 3. Cover one speaker’s lines, give alternative answers with your teacher, and write them down.

Martin et Alexandra se demande ce qu'ils vont pouvoir faire ce soir.

Martin and Alexandra wonder what they will be able to do this evening.
1. Martin: Alex, ça te dit de sortir ce soir ? Ça fait un moment. (Alex, do you feel like going out tonight? It's been a while.)
2. Alexandra: Oui, pourquoi pas ! Tu veux faire quoi ? (Yes, why not! What do you want to do?)
3. Martin: Il y a un nouveau film au cinéma. Tu veux y aller ? (There is a new movie at the cinema. Do you want to go?)
4. Alexandra: Non, pas trop envie de rester assis longtemps dans une salle. (No, not really in the mood to sit for a long time in a theater.)
5. Martin: D'accord, on peut aller en boîte et danser toute la soirée ? (Okay, can we go to a club and dance all night?)
6. Alexandra: Comme quand on avait vingt ans ? (Like when we were twenty?)
7. Martin: Oui, et on prendra quelques cocktails ! (Yes, and we'll have some cocktails!)
8. Alexandra: La musique est souvent très forte là-bas... (The music is often very loud there...)
9. Martin: C'est ce qui fait l'ambiance en boîte de nuit. (That's what makes the atmosphere in a nightclub.)
10. Alexandra: Je préfère quelque chose de plus calme. Un ami m'a donné des places pour une pièce de théâtre. (I prefer something calmer. A friend gave me tickets for a play.)
11. Martin: Je pensais que tu ne voulais pas rester enfermé toute la soirée ? (I thought you didn't want to stay locked up all evening?)
12. Alexandra: Oui, mais cette pièce me plaît, elle parle des disputes de couple. (Yes, but I like this play, it talks about couple quarrels.)
13. Martin: On va passer une bonne soirée, j'en suis sûr. (We're going to have a good evening, I'm sure of it.)
