Exercise 1: Dialogue

Noah aide sa mère à mettre la table pour le repas de ce soir où ses grands parents sont invités.

Noah helps his mother set the table for this evening’s meal where his grandparents are invited.
1. Noah: Veux-tu que je t'aide à mettre la table pour ce soir ? (Do you want me to help you set the table for tonight?)
2. Maman: Oui, s'il te plaît. Commence par placer les assiettes. (Yes, please. Start by placing the plates.)
3. Noah: C'est bon ! Je mets les serviettes où ? Sur ou sous l'assiette ? (All right! Where do I put the napkins? On or under the plate?)
4. Maman: Sur l'assiette. Ensuite, pose les couverts à côté des assiettes. (On the plate. Then, place the cutlery next to the plates.)
5. Noah: D'accord. Où est-ce que je mets les verres à vin et les verres à eau ? (Okay. Where do I put the wine glasses and the water glasses?)
6. Maman: Les verres à vin sont pour les adultes, les verres à eau pour tout le monde. (The wine glasses are for the adults, the water glasses for everyone.)
7. Noah: Oui, mais à quelle place sont les adultes ? (Yes, but where are the adults seated?)
8. Maman: Ton père et moi sommes aux extrémités de la table. Ta grand-mère est en face de moi, et ton grand-père à côté d'elle. (Your father and I are at the ends of the table. Your grandmother is opposite me, and your grandfather next to her.)
9. Noah: Je préfère que grand-père soit près de moi. Comme ça, je peux lui parler. (I prefer that grandfather sits close to me. That way, I can talk to him.)
10. Maman: Alors, échange ta place avec ta sœur. Et n'oublie pas d'essuyer la table, s'il te plaît ! (Then, swap your seat with your sister’s. And don’t forget to wipe the table, please!)
11. Noah: D'accord. Je remplis aussi la bouteille d'eau ? (Okay. Should I also fill the water bottle?)
12. Maman: Oui, et ce soir, tu m'aides aussi à faire la vaisselle. (Yes, and tonight, you’re also helping me do the dishes.)
13. Noah: Oh non ! Je préfère quand on mange chez grand-mère, là-bas on ne fait rien ! (Oh no! I prefer when we eat at grandmother’s, there we do nothing!)
