German Dentistry module 2: Basic dental treatments (Basic dental treatments)

This is learning module 2 of 6 of our German A2 syllabus. Each learning module contains 6 till 8 chapters.

Learning goals:

  • Understand the structure and flow of a first dental visit
  • Identify and explain basic dental treatments
  • Recognize and describe basic dental anatomy

Dentistry 5 - Erster Zahnarztbesuch (First dental visit)

  • Guide a professional presentation and take initial X-rays
  • Perform a complete oral examination using the examination kit (mirror, probe and forceps)
  • Explain to the patient how the consultation will proceed and what to expect during the first appointment

Dentistry 6 - Bukkale Anatomie (Buccal anatomy)

  • Learn to name the teeth
  • Structures of dental anatomy (teeth and periodontium anatomy)
  • Identify teeth by number and name using the FDI

Dentistry 7 - Konservierende Zahnheilkunde (Conservative Dentistry)

  • Explain the process of tooth decay formation
  • Identify tooth decay through appropriate clinical diagnosis
  • Describe the main steps involved in a dental filling

Dentistry 8 - Kinderzahnheilkunde (Paediatric dentistry)

  • Introduce the child to their first appointment at the dental surgery
  • Use techniques to reassure the child during the appointment
  • Explain the main treatments in paediatric dentistry

Dentistry 9 - Endodontologie (Endodontics)

  • Endodontics and re-endodontics
  • Describe the instruments and stages of endodontic treatment
  • Inform the patient about the risks, care and follow-up after endodontic treatment

Dentistry 10 - Hygiene und Parodontologie, Prophylaxe vs. Scaling und Wurzelglättung (Hygiene and periodontology, prophylaxis vs. scaling and root planing)

  • Explain the differences between conventional cleaning and scaling/root planing
  • Instruments and clinical protocol
  • Educate the patient on personalised oral hygiene for periodontal maintenance
