(Dental emergency notice - Dental clinic)

At Centro Dental Clinic we treat emergencies without an appointment from Monday to Friday. Common reasons: acute pain, a fractured tooth, a loose filling, or tooth sensitivity. When you arrive, the dentist examines the patient, asks about medical history and, if necessary, takes X-rays.

If there is oral bleeding, press with gauze and keep your head elevated. In case of dental infection or an abscess, do not apply heat: use a cold compress on the outside and request an appointment today. If the wisdom tooth hurts a lot, we can schedule an extraction or refer you to the specialist.

(What steps does the clinic recommend if there is oral bleeding, and what do they advise if there is an infection or abscess?)

(This morning a patient came in without an appointment because of a dental emergency. He says he has sharp pain in a wisdom tooth and also a loose filling. First I asked for his medical history and examined his mouth. There was some oral bleeding, so I put some gauze on to control the bleeding and applied a cold compress. Then we took X-rays. It doesn’t look like an abscess, but there is a dental infection. We gave him painkillers and I told him to come back tomorrow to schedule an extraction with local anesthesia; if it gets worse, we will refer him to the specialist.)

Hola,

Soy la Dra. Marta Ruiz.

Hello,

I am Dr. Marta Ruiz. We have a new patient, Luis Navarro, who is calling with acute pain in a tooth since last night and says his face is a bit swollen. He doesn’t know if it is an abscess or a dental infection. He also mentions a bit of oral bleeding when brushing.

Please reply to him today: ask for medical history (allergies, medication), tell him to come in to examine the patient and possibly take X-rays. If he has a lot of swelling or fever, we’ll see him as an emergency.

Useful phrases:

  1. Gracias por tu mensaje. Para organizar la cita, necesito saber si…

(Thank you for your message. To arrange the appointment, I need to know whether…)

  2. ¿Tiene alergias o toma alguna medicación ahora?

(Do you have any allergies or are you taking any medication right now?)

(I suggest you come in today at ___, so we can examine you and take an X-ray.)

Hola Dra. Ruiz:

[Tu nombre]

Hello Dr. Ruiz:

Agreed. Today I will write to Luis Navarro to ask for medical history: allergies and current medication. I will also ask him if he has a fever and how swollen his face is. I propose an urgent appointment this afternoon at 17:30 to examine the patient and, if necessary, take X-rays. I will tell him that if the swelling increases or he has a high fever, he should come directly to the clinic or go to the emergency room.

Kind regards,
[Your name]
