También pregunta si puede tomar alcohol este fin de semana. ¿Me puedes decir qué medicamento le prescribimos y cuál es la dosis y el intervalo entre tomas? Si hay alguna contraindicación, dímelo para explicárselo. Gracias.

Hi, I’m Laura (reception). Mr. Martín called: yesterday he had an extraction and today he has a lot of pain and swelling. He says he can’t take ibuprofen because it gives him stomach pain. He also asks if he can drink alcohol this weekend. Can you tell me what medication we prescribe for him and what the dose and the interval between doses is? Para el Sr. Martín propongo paracetamol para el dolor: 1 g (1000 mg) cada 8 horas, máximo 3 g al día. También podemos indicar enjuagues con agua tibia y sal y frío local para la inflamación. Advierte al paciente que no mezcle paracetamol con alcohol y que no supere la dosis máxima.
Si el dolor no mejora en 48 horas, si aparece fiebre o sangrado abundante, que nos llame para revisión. Confirma por favor si tiene alergias a medicamentos.

Hi Laura:
For Mr. Martín I suggest paracetamol for the pain: 1 g (1000 mg) every 8 hours, maximum 3 g per day. We can also recommend rinses with warm salt water and local cold for the swelling. Warn the patient not to mix paracetamol with alcohol and not to exceed the maximum dose.
If the pain does not improve within 48 hours, if fever appears or there is heavy bleeding, he should call us for a check-up. Please confirm whether he has medication allergies.
