thank you for the impression and the cast of tooth 26. We have now finished the model.
I have a question regarding the crown for this posterior tooth:
- The patient has a high occlusal load (strong bite, bruxism).
- The occlusion is relatively deep; there is limited space.
- The patient wants good aesthetics, but it is not an anterior tooth.
Which indication do you see for the material?
- Metal crown
- Metal-ceramic crown
- Zirconia crown
Please write me briefly:
- Which material we should use to fabricate the crown.
- Why you choose this material for this tooth (considering load and aesthetics).

Ich entscheide mich für eine Metall-Keramik-Krone. Der Zahn steht im Seitenzahnbereich und hat eine starke Belastung, deshalb möchte ich ein stabiles Material. Metall-Keramik hat eine gute Stabilität und auch eine gute Ästhetik. Vollmetall wäre funktionell gut, aber der Patient wünscht eine bessere Ästhetik. Zirkoniumoxid ist auch ästhetisch, aber bei starkem Knirschen bevorzuge ich hier Metall-Keramik.
Für die Zementation plane ich einen konventionellen Glasionomer-Zement zu verwenden. Die Präparation hat eine gute Retention, deshalb ist das möglich.
Ein einfaches Kunststoff-Provisorium ist für die Zwischenzeit in Ordnung.

Good day Ms. Keller,
thank you for your email and for noting the high occlusal load on tooth 26.
I recommend a metal-ceramic crown. The tooth is in the posterior region and is subject to heavy forces, so I prefer a stable material. Metal-ceramic provides good strength while offering acceptable aesthetics. Full metal would be functionally strong, but the patient prefers improved appearance. Zirconia is also aesthetic, but given the pronounced bruxism I favor metal-ceramic in this case.
For cementation I plan to use a conventional glass ionomer cement. The preparation has good retention, so this is suitable.
A simple resin temporary restoration is acceptable for the interim.
