Nursing 22 - Pre- and Postoperative Care

(You'll have general anesthesia tomorrow, so you'll be completely asleep. The anesthesiologist will continuously monitor your vital signs—blood pressure, heart rate and breathing. The risk of complications is small, but not zero.)

Cliënt Dhr. De Vries: Show Moet ik vannacht nog ergens speciaal op letten, bijvoorbeeld eten of drinken, en mag mijn vrouw morgen mee tot aan de operatiekamer?

(Is there anything I should pay special attention to tonight, like eating or drinking? And is my wife allowed to come with me to the operating room tomorrow?)

Verpleegkundige Marieke: Show U moet vanaf middernacht nuchter blijven, dus niet meer eten en alleen tot twee uur van tevoren helder drinken, en uw vrouw kan morgen met u mee tot de holding en daarna als begeleider wachten op de familiekamer.

(You must remain fasting from midnight: no solid food, and only clear fluids up to two hours before the procedure. Your wife can accompany you to the holding area and then wait in the family room as your companion.)

Cliënt Dhr. De Vries: Show En hoe zit het met de vervoersregeling na de operatie, mag ik zelf naar huis rijden als alles goed gaat?

Verpleegkundige Marieke: Show Nee, na narcose of sedatie mag u 24 uur niet zelf autorijden, dus we adviseren dat uw vrouw u met de auto ophaalt; dat nemen we ook op in uw nazorgplan.

Cliënt Mevrouw Van Leeuwen: Show Mijn buik doet nog best pijn, ik heb op het pijnscoreformulier een zeven ingevuld; is dat normaal op de eerste postoperatieve dag?

(My abdomen still hurts quite a bit. I put a seven on the pain score form; is that normal on the first postoperative day?)

Verpleegkundige Hassan: Show Een zeven is aan de hoge kant, dus ik overleg zo met de arts over extra pijnbestrijding, en ondertussen doe ik een wondinspectie om te kijken of er geen tekenen van een wondinfectie zijn, zoals roodheid of lekkage rond de drain.
