Intranetbericht: privacy op de afdeling
Op het intranet van het ziekenhuis staat een korte herinnering: praat niet over patiënten in de lift of in de kantine. Ook telefoonschermen moeten vergrendeld zijn. Alleen collega’s die direct bij de zorg betrokken zijn, mogen medische informatie zien.
Bij een wilsbekwame patiënt vraag je altijd voordat je gegevens deelt met familie. Leg rustig uit waarom je iets vraagt en respecteer de keuze en de van de patiënt. Volg de en de standaardprocedure, ook als er tijdsdruk is. Hoi Nadia,
Ik leg de dochter vriendelijk uit dat we medische gegevens alleen delen met toestemming van mevrouw Jansen, vanwege privacy en vertrouwelijkheid. Omdat mevrouw Jansen sliep, kon ik op dat moment geen toestemming vragen en dus geen details geven over medicatie of haar toestand.
Ik stel voor dat ik zodra mevrouw Jansen wakker is, vraag of zij wil dat we informatie met haar dochter delen en welke informatie precies. Als ze toestemming geeft, noteer ik dit in het dossier. Als ze geen toestemming geeft, geef ik alleen algemene informatie (bijvoorbeeld over bezoektijden) en bied ik aan later terug te bellen of de arts te laten informeren. Zo handelen we respectvol en binnen onze professionele grenzen.

Hi Nadia,
I kindly explain to the daughter that we only share medical information with Mrs Jansen’s consent, because of privacy and confidentiality. Because Mrs Jansen was asleep, I couldn’t ask for consent at that moment and therefore couldn’t give details about medication or her condition.
I suggest that as soon as Mrs Jansen is awake, I ask whether she wants us to share information with her daughter and exactly what information. If she gives consent, I record this in the file. If she does not give consent, I only provide general information (for example about visiting hours) and offer to call back later or have the doctor provide information. In this way we act respectfully and within our professional boundaries.
