Dans le service de gériatrie, l’aide-soignant doit proposer régulièrement le ou l’ aux patients qui ne peuvent pas se lever. In the geriatric ward, the nursing assistant should regularly offer a bedpan or a urinal to patients who cannot get out of bed. They put on disposable gloves, place a clean protective pad on the bed and help the patient get comfortable. After urination or defecation, they empty the urinal or the bedpan, then clean and disinfect the equipment.

Before disposing of urine or stool, the nursing assistant checks the color, consistency and quantity. They immediately report very dark urine or unusually loose stools to the nurse in charge. Next, they gently cleanse the patient’s skin, dry it with a clean towel and change the bedding if necessary. Finally, they record their observations in the care chart to ensure appropriate medical follow-up.

Bonjour Madame Martin,

Je vous informe que ce matin j’ai aidé Mme Dupuis au lit avec un bassin de lit. Les urines étaient en quantité modérée, de couleur jaune clair. Elle a aussi eu des selles molles, en petite quantité.

Après l’élimination, j’ai fait le change avec une nouvelle protection absorbante et une hygiène périnéale complète (rinçage et essuyage en tamponnant). J’ai ensuite installé Mme Dupuis confortablement et je lui ai proposé de boire un peu d’eau.

Hello Mrs. Martin,

Please note that this morning I assisted Mrs. Dupuis in bed using a bedpan. The urine was moderate in amount and light yellow in color. She also passed soft stools in a small amount.

After the elimination, I changed her into a new absorbent pad and performed complete perineal hygiene (rinsing and patting dry). I then made Mrs. Dupuis comfortable and offered her a little water to drink.
