Instruction: Write a reply to the following message appropriate to the situation
E-Mail: You will receive an email from a colleague on the ward and should reply in writing and briefly explain the further plan.

Liebe Frau Schneider,
Herr Kaya ist heute sehr müde und hat wieder starke Schmerzen. Seine Tochter hat mir eine Kopie von seiner Patientenverfügung und der Vorsorgevollmacht gebracht. Dort steht, dass er keine Reanimation möchte und eine palliative Behandlung wünscht.
Können Sie bitte kurz schreiben, wie Sie weiter vorgehen wollen (Arzt informieren, Schmerzmanagement, evtl. Hospiz-Beratung)? Dann lege ich Ihre Antwort zur Akte.

Mr. Kaya is very tired today and is experiencing severe pain again. His daughter brought me a copy of his advance directive and the power of attorney. It states that he does not want resuscitation and prefers palliative care.

Ich werde zuerst den zuständigen Arzt informieren und mit ihm den weiteren palliativen Behandlungsplan besprechen. Wir prüfen dann, wie wir das Schmerzmanagement verbessern können, zum Beispiel durch regelmäßigere Schmerzmedikamente.
Außerdem werde ich die Tochter fragen, ob sie eine Hospiz-Beratung wünscht. Die Wünsche von Herrn Kaya stehen für uns im Mittelpunkt, wir respektieren seine Entscheidung.

Dear Ms. Müller,
Thank you for your email and for the information about Mr. Kaya’s advance directive.
First I will inform the responsible physician and discuss the further palliative care plan with them. We will then review how to improve his pain management, for example by giving pain medication at more regular intervals.
I will also ask the daughter whether she would like hospice counselling. Mr. Kaya’s wishes are our priority, and we will respect his decision.
