Exercise 1: Writing correspondence
Instruction: Write a reply to the following message appropriate to the situation
E-Mail: You receive an email from your ward manager about new hygiene rules on your ward and should reply briefly that you have understood everything, explain your own tasks and ask a question.
Betreff: Neue Hygieneregeln auf Station 3B
Liebe Frau Keller,
ab Montag haben wir neue Hygiene-Protokolle auf unserer Station, wegen der steigenden Infektionen.
Wichtig ist:
- Bitte immer Mundschutz und Handschuhe im Patientenzimmer tragen.
- Vor und nach jedem Patientenkontakt: Händedesinfektion oder gründlich Hände waschen.
- Abends machen wir eine zusätzliche Oberflächenreinigung (Betttische, Nachttische, Türklinken). Heute sind Sie dafür zuständig.
- Kontaminierter Abfall (z.B. gebrauchte Masken und Handschuhe) kommt in den roten Behälter, nicht in den normalen Müll.
Bitte sagen Sie mir kurz per E-Mail:
- Haben Sie die neuen Regeln verstanden?
- Welche Aufgaben übernehmen Sie genau bei der Reinigung heute Abend?

Starting on Monday we will have new hygiene protocols on our ward because infections are increasing.
Important:
- Please always wear a face mask and gloves in the patient room.
- Before and after every patient contact: hand disinfection or thoroughly wash your hands.
- In the evenings we carry out an additional surface cleaning (overbed tables, bedside tables, door handles). You are responsible for this tonight.
- Contaminated waste (e.g. used masks and gloves) must go into the red bin, not the regular trash.
Please tell me briefly by email:
- Have you understood the new rules?
- Which tasks will you specifically take on for the cleaning this evening?

Thank you for your email. I have understood the new hygiene rules. I always wear a face mask and gloves in the patient room, and I disinfect my hands before and after every patient contact.
This evening I will take care of the additional surface cleaning. I will clean the overbed tables, bedside tables and door handles on the ward and disinfect the surfaces with the appropriate disinfectant.
I have one question about waste separation: Do used paper tissues after hand disinfection also belong in the red bin or in the regular trash?
