After an extraction in our clinic, bite on a sterile gauze pad for thirty minutes. This stops the bleeding in the wound. After that you may discard the gauze. It is important that you do not rinse your mouth or spit forcefully during the first 24 hours, so a good blood clot can form and remain in place.

You may only eat or drink after two hours, and avoid hot coffee or tea. Smoking and alcohol are forbidden on the first day because they impair wound healing. If you have pain, you may take paracetamol. You may sometimes receive stitches and a small hemostatic sponge in the wound. Do not touch the suture with your tongue or fingers. In case of heavy bleeding or fever, contact the dental practice immediately.
