With high chewing force, we often recommend a zirconia crown or a metal-ceramic crown. A metal crown is very strong, but less aesthetic. If one tooth is missing, a zirconia bridge can be a good solution.
For the preparation, the dentist uses preparation burs. After that, we make a silicone impression or a digital impression. Until the appointment for the definitive cementation, the patient receives a temporary crown made of bis-acryl resin. Explain this calmly to the patient.

Also, please: which impression are we planning (digital or silicone) and do we place a temporary crown after milling?

Voor dhr. Van Dijk (ontzenuwde premolaar) raad ik zirkonium aan: het is sterk en ziet er natuurlijk uit. Metaal-keramiek is ook sterk, maar bij terugtrekkend tandvlees kan er later een grijze rand zichtbaar worden. Een volledig metalen kroon is heel duurzaam, maar minder esthetisch, vooral bij lachen.
Voor de afdruk: als het mogelijk is, graag een digitale afdruk. Die is meestal sneller en comfortabeler voor de patiënt. Na het prepareren en frezen plaats ik een tijdelijke kroon totdat de definitieve kroon klaar is.
Wil ik dit zo naar de patiënt sturen en de afspraak voor morgen bevestigen?

Hi Dr. Meijer,
For Mr. Van Dijk (root-canal-treated premolar) I recommend zirconia: it is strong and looks natural. Metal-ceramic is also strong, but with receding gums a gray margin may become visible later. An all-metal crown is very durable, but less aesthetic, especially when smiling.
For the impression: if possible, I would prefer a digital impression. It is usually faster and more comfortable for the patient. After preparing and milling, I will place a temporary crown until the final crown is ready.
Shall I send this to the patient and confirm tomorrow’s appointment?
