Dokter Van der Meer is tandarts in een praktijk in Utrecht. Vandaag komt meneer Rossi, een nieuwe patiënt, voor zijn eerste bezoek. De assistente haalt hem uit de wachtkamer en zegt: “Goedemiddag, u mag in de gaan zitten.”
De tandarts doet een op en trekt medische aan. Hij zegt: “Welkom, dit is uw eerste afspraak bij ons. We beginnen met de vragenlijst. Ik wil graag weten welke medicijnen u gebruikt en of u allergieën heeft.” Daarna vraagt hij of de patiënt geen vragen meer heeft.
Als de vragen duidelijk zijn, vraagt de tandarts om een toestemming. Hij legt rustig uit: “Ik ga eerst een onderzoek doen van uw mond. Ik gebruik een , een tandartssonde en een tandartspincet. Dat doet meestal geen pijn. Als iets gevoelig is, zegt u het gewoon.”
Daarna maakt de assistente een kleine . De tandarts kijkt naar de tanden en het tandvlees en geeft kort hygiëneadvies. Hij zegt welke plekken de patiënt beter moet poetsen en flossen.
Aan het einde van het consult legt de tandarts het behandelplan uit. De assistente print ook een offerte. Samen bespreken ze de kosten. Tot slot gaat de patiënt naar de balie om de volgende afspraak te bevestigen voor een uitgebreide controle en eventuele behandeling.Dr. Van der Meer is a dentist at a practice in Utrecht. Today Mr. Rossi, a new patient, comes for his first visit. The assistant brings him from the waiting room and says: “Good afternoon, you may take a seat in the treatment room.”
The dentist puts on a mask and medical gloves. He says: “Welcome, this is your first appointment with us. We'll start with the medical questionnaire. I would like to know which medications you take and whether you have any allergies.” Then he asks if the patient has any other questions.
Once the questions are clear, the dentist asks for informed consent. He explains calmly: “First I will do a clinical examination of your mouth. I will use a mouth mirror, a dental probe and dental tweezers. This usually does not hurt. If anything is sensitive, please tell me.”
After that the assistant takes a small X-ray. The dentist examines the teeth and gums and briefly gives hygiene advice. He points out the areas the patient should brush and floss more carefully.
At the end of the consultation the dentist explains the treatment plan. The assistant also prints a cost estimate. Together they discuss the costs. Finally the patient goes to the reception desk to confirm the next appointment for a thorough check and possible treatment.

Oefening 6: Conversation exercise
Instructie:
- Simuleer het welkom in de wachtruimte. Stel jezelf voor, stel de patiënt gerust met een korte zin en begeleid hen naar de behandelkamer. (Simulate the welcome in the waiting room. Introduce yourself, reassure the patient with a short sentence, and lead them to the treatment room.)
- Beschrijf uw klinisch protocol voor het afhandelen van een eerste afspraak. (Describe your clinical protocol for managing a first visit.)
