Een uitneembare gebitsprothese vervangt of meer tanden of kiezen. Er zijn drie veelvoorkomende soorten. Een kunststofprothese is van ; deze is vaak tijdelijk of geschikt als er nog meerdere eigen tanden zijn. Een heeft een metalen frame en ; deze prothese is meestal steviger en zit beter vast. De prothese is voor een boven- of onderkaak zonder eigen tanden.

Goede is belangrijk. Haal de prothese elke dag uit de mond en maak hem schoon met lauw water en een zachte borstel. Gebruik geen heet water, want de prothese kan vervormen. Bewaar de prothese ’s nachts in een schoon bakje met water of een speciaal bewaarmiddel. Kom terug als de prothese pijn doet, los zit of als er ontstaan; soms is of aanpassen nodig.
A removable dental prosthesis replaces one or more teeth. There are three common types. A partial acrylic denture is made of acrylic resin; it is often temporary or suitable when several natural teeth remain. A cast partial has a metal framework and clasps; this type of prosthesis is usually sturdier and stays in place better. A complete denture is for an upper or lower jaw with no natural teeth.

Good hygiene is important. Remove the prosthesis from your mouth every day and clean it with lukewarm water and a soft brush. Do not use hot water, as the prosthesis can deform. Keep the prosthesis overnight in a clean container with water or a special storage solution. Come back if the prosthesis causes pain, feels loose or if pressure points develop; sometimes padding or an adjustment is needed.
