Een kroon is een stevig kapje van metaal of porselein dat als vervanging over een tand of kies wordt geplaatst. (A crown is a strong cap made of metal or porcelain that is placed over a tooth as a replacement or protection.)
Dit kapje wordt helemaal op maat gemaakt, zodat het precies aansluit op uw eigen tand of kies. (This cap is custom made so that it fits exactly over your tooth.)
Na het plaatsen lijm ik de kroon zorgvuldig vast, zodat hij stevig blijft zitten en u er normaal mee kunt kauwen. (After fitting it, I carefully cement the crown so it stays securely in place and you can chew normally.)
Door een kroon krijgt de tand of kies zijn oorspronkelijke vorm, stevigheid en uiterlijk terug. (A crown restores the tooth’s original shape, strength and appearance.)
Wanneer één of meerdere tanden of kiezen ontbreken, kan in plaats van alleen kronen ook een brug worden geplaatst. (When one or more teeth are missing, a bridge can be used instead of placing individual crowns alone.)
Een brug vult de lege ruimte op, zodat er geen open plek in het gebit achterblijft. (A bridge fills the gap so there isn’t an open space in the mouth.)
Zo'n brug bestaat meestal uit twee of meer kronen met daartussen één of meerdere kunsttanden, het brugtussendeel genoemd. (A bridge usually consists of two or more crowns with one or more artificial teeth between them—the middle part is called the bridge pontic.)
Met kronen en bruggen herstellen we de vorm, functie en het uiterlijk van het gebit, zodat de patiënt weer goed kan bijten, kauwen en lachen. (With crowns and bridges we restore the shape, function and appearance of the teeth so the patient can bite, chew and smile normally again.)
