Objet : Extraction - patient sous anticoagulant

Bonjour Docteure Martin,

Merci d'avance,
Dr Léa Durand, chirurgien-dentiste

Subject: Extraction – patient on anticoagulant

Hello Dr Martin,

I am referring to you Mr Karim Benali (72 years old). He is taking an anticoagulant (apixaban) for atrial fibrillation. In the office, he has pain and a focus of infection on tooth 46, and 47 is very mobile. I have to perform 2 extractions (46 and 47) next week.

Could you please specify the precautions to take (whether or not to stop the treatment, tests, instructions) and whether you would like a check-up before/after the procedure?

Thank you in advance,
Dr Léa Durand, dental surgeon

(Thank you for your message concerning Mr …)

  2. Pour l'anticoagulant, je vous propose de …

(For the anticoagulant, I suggest …)

  3. Après l'acte, merci de prévoir …

(After the procedure, please plan …)

Bonjour Dr Durand,

Cordialement,
Dr Sophie Martin
Médecin généraliste

Hello Dr Durand,

Thank you for your message concerning Mr Karim Benali. I confirm that he is on apixaban for atrial fibrillation.

For extractions 46 and 47, I suggest not stopping the treatment without the cardiologist’s opinion. Schedule the procedure in the morning, prepare hemostatic gauze pads, and avoid self-medication with NSAIDs. Check blood pressure and ask the patient whether he bleeds easily.

After the procedure, plan a check-up at 24–48 h if bleeding persists; otherwise standard follow-up. Send me the clinical report after the intervention.

Kind regards,
Dr Sophie Martin
