Aujourd’hui, parlons des urgences dentaires : quand faut-il consulter ? (Today, let's talk about dental emergencies: when should you consult a dentist?)
Les deux urgences principales sont les douleurs qui apparaissent sans raison et les douleurs provoquées par quelque chose. (The two main emergencies are pains that appear without any reason and pains caused by something.)
La première douleur est un battement régulier, souvent la nuit, qui peut aller jusqu’à l’oreille. (The first pain is a regular throbbing, often at night, which can extend to the ear.)
Il faut consulter rapidement pour faire un diagnostic et souvent pour commencer un traitement avec des antibiotiques. (It is necessary to consult quickly to make a diagnosis and often to start treatment with antibiotics.)
Ensuite, un rendez-vous est pris pour soigner la dent, soit en la dévitalisant, soit en l’extrayant. (Then, an appointment is made to treat the tooth, either by performing a root canal or by extracting it.)
La deuxième urgence est une douleur très forte quand on mange ou boit froid ou chaud. (The second emergency is a very severe pain when eating or drinking something cold or hot.)
Les médicaments ne suffisent pas dans ce cas, il faut soigner la dent rapidement au cabinet. (Medication is not enough in this case; the tooth needs to be treated quickly at the clinic.)
N’hésitez pas à appeler votre dentiste ou à venir en urgence. (Do not hesitate to call your dentist or come in for an emergency.)
Certains cabinets dentaires acceptent les patients sans rendez-vous. (Some dental clinics accept patients without an appointment.)

Instruction: Read the dialogue and answer the questions.

The patient describes intense pain, the assistant asks questions about the symptoms and arranges a prompt appointment for an X-ray and treatment.
1. Assistant: Cabinet dentaire, bonjour. Comment puis-je vous aider ? (Dental office, hello. How can I help you?)
2. Patiente: Bonjour, j’ai très mal à une dent du fond, en bas à droite. (Hello, I have a very bad pain in a back tooth, lower right.)
3. Assistant: Depuis quand avez-vous mal ? (Since when have you had the pain?)
4. Patiente: Depuis deux jours, mais la nuit dernière, c’était pire, je n’ai pas dormi. (For two days, but last night it was worse, I didn't sleep.)
5. Assistant: Avez-vous pris un médicament contre la douleur ? (Have you taken any medication for the pain?)
6. Patiente: Oui, j’ai pris de l’ibuprofène 600 mg, mais ça ne marche pas. (Yes, I took ibuprofen 600 mg, but it doesn't work.)
7. Assistant: Votre visage est-il gonflé ? Avez-vous chaud à cet endroit ? (Is your face swollen? Do you feel heat in that area?)
8. Patiente: Oui, le côté droit de mon visage est gonflé et j’ai mal jusque dans l’oreille. (Yes, the right side of my face is swollen and I have pain all the way to my ear.)
9. Assistant: Je comprends, cela ressemble à une infection. Nous allons vous donner un rendez-vous d’urgence pour aujourd’hui. (I understand, it sounds like an infection. We will give you an emergency appointment for today.)
10. Patiente: Merci, j’ai vraiment très mal. (Thank you, my pain is really very bad.)
11. Assistant: Le docteur vous verra en fin d’après-midi. Il fera une radio pour comprendre le problème et vous donnera un traitement. (The doctor will see you this afternoon. He will take an X-ray to understand the problem and will give you a treatment.)
12. Patiente: C’est parfait, merci de me recevoir aussi vite. (That's perfect, thank you for seeing me so quickly.)
13. Assistant: Ne vous inquiétez pas, reposez-vous et évitez de réchauffer la zone. À tout à l’heure. (Don't worry, rest and avoid warming the area. See you soon.)
