Welcoming new patients

The dentist and the assistant establish a protocol of action to welcome new patients.

Le rôle d’une assistante dentaire consiste à être le véritable bras droit du dentiste. Elle prépare le matériel nécessaire avant chaque soin et l’assiste au fauteuil en lui transmettant les instruments au bon moment.
The role of a dental assistant is to be the dentist's right-hand person. She prepares the necessary equipment before each treatment and assists at the chair by handing over the instruments at the right moment.

Dans un cabinet dentaire, l'assistante prépare le matériel et aide le dentiste pendant les soins. Elle gère aussi la stérilisation et les contacts avec les laboratoires. Après avoir allumé le cabinet, l'équipe nettoie les instruments et les met en sachet. L'autoclave chauffe très fort, donc il faut faire attention. Enfin, tout est vérifié pour une bonne hygiène.

Mon rôle, comme assistante dentaire, est d'être le bras droit du dentiste. (My role, as a dental assistant, is to be the dentist’s right-hand person.)
Je prépare le matériel et je l'assiste au fauteuil pendant les soins. (I prepare the equipment and assist chairside during treatments.)
Je m'occupe aussi des prothèses, des contacts avec les laboratoires et de la stérilisation. (I also take care of prostheses, contacts with laboratories, and sterilization.)
Après avoir allumé le cabinet, on passe directement à la stérilisation. (After turning on the dental office, we go straight to sterilization.)
L'autoclave fonctionne comme un lave-vaisselle : il nettoie les instruments. (The autoclave works like a dishwasher: it cleans the instruments.)
Ensuite, on trie le matériel, comme les miroirs, les sondes, les pinces et les spatules. (Then, we sort the equipment, such as mirrors, probes, forceps, and spatulas.)
Certains résidus restent, donc on les enlève à l'alcool. (Some residue remains, so we remove it with alcohol.)
Après le nettoyage, on met les instruments en sachet, puis on les place dans l'autoclave qui monte à cent trente-quatre degrés Celsius. (After cleaning, we put the instruments into pouches, then we place them in the autoclave, which goes up to one hundred and thirty-four degrees Celsius.)
Il faut faire attention, car on peut se brûler facilement. (You have to be careful, because you can burn yourself easily.)
Enfin, tout est vérifié et stérilisé une seconde fois pour garantir l'hygiène. (Finally, everything is checked and sterilized a second time to guarantee hygiene.)

2. Assistante: Très bien, docteur. Quelles sont exactement mes responsabilités ? (Very well, doctor. What exactly are my responsibilities?)
3. Dentiste: D'abord, vous accueillez le patient à la réception et vous lui remettez la fiche d'anamnèse. (First, you welcome the patient at reception and give them the medical history form.)
4. Assistante: Doit‑il la remplir sur place ? (Do they have to fill it out on site?)
