Exercise 1: Dialogue

Instruction: 1. Read the dialogue in pairs. 2. Memorize the phrases by covering the translation. 3. Cover one speaker’s lines, give alternative answers with your teacher, and write them down.

Deux amis parlent de la meilleure période pour voyager selon la météo.

Two friends talk about the best time to travel according to the weather.
1. Lionel: On part où pour les vacances d'été ? (Where are we leaving for summer vacation?)
2. Barbara: En juillet, j'aimerais aller dans un pays chaud, comme l'Espagne ou la Grèce. (In July, I would like to go to a warm country, like Spain or Greece.)
3. Lionel: En été, il fait très chaud en Grèce. Je préfère aller en Espagne. (In summer, it is very hot in Greece. I prefer going to Spain.)
4. Barbara: Oui, tu as raison. Et en septembre, tu veux partir où ? (Yes, you are right. And in September, where do you want to go?)
5. Lionel: En septembre, je ne peux pas partir, je travaille. Et l'hiver, on part ensemble ? (In September, I can't leave, I work. And in winter, are we going together?)
6. Barbara: Oui ! Je ne sais pas encore si je vais à New York ou à la montagne en décembre. J'aime le froid en hiver. (Yes! I don't know yet if I will go to New York or to the mountains in December. I like the cold in winter.)
7. Lionel: New York, c'est bien, mais il fait plus doux en automne. (New York is nice, but it is milder in autumn.)
8. Barbara: Peu importe. J'aime aussi la montagne, ça me va très bien. (It doesn't matter. I also like the mountains, it suits me very well.)
9. Lionel: Je voudrais aussi partir en vacances en mars pour mon anniversaire. (I would also like to go on vacation in March for my birthday.)
10. Barbara: Je te conseille d'aller au Maroc en mars, il fait doux. En été, il fait trop chaud. (I advise you to go to Morocco in March, it is mild. In summer, it is too hot.)
11. Lionel: J'y suis déjà allé. Peut-être la Tunisie, le climat est un peu similaire. (I've already been there. Maybe Tunisia, the climate is somewhat similar.)
12. Barbara: En avril, je vais en Angleterre avec mes cousins. Ils ont un appartement à Londres. (In April, I am going to England with my cousins. They have an apartment in London.)
13. Lionel: Super ! Cette année, on va passer de très bonnes vacances. (Great! This year, we are going to have a very good vacation.)
