In vielen deutschen Häusern teilen sich Familien eine Waschmaschine im Keller. Das Video zeigt: Haushaltsgeräte werden immer schlauer – aber was passiert mit den Daten, die die Maschinen über uns sammeln?
In many German houses, families share a washing machine in the basement. The video shows: household appliances are becoming increasingly smart – but what happens to the data that the machines collect about us?

Exercise 1: Listening comprehension

Die Kartons sind auf dem Boden vor dem Regal. (The boxes are on the floor in front of the shelf.)
Es gibt auch einen kleinen Tisch im Keller. (There is also a small table in the cellar.)
Auf dem Tisch liegt eine Taschenlampe. (A flashlight lies on the table.)
Die Lampe hängt an der Wand über dem Tisch. (The lamp hangs on the wall above the table.)
Manchmal stellen wir Fahrräder in den Keller. (Sometimes we keep bicycles in the cellar.)
Die Fahrräder stehen zwischen dem Regal und der Wand. (The bicycles are between the shelf and the wall.)

1. Benedikt: Was hältst du davon, wenn wir im Keller einen Waschraum machen? (What do you think about turning the basement into a laundry room?)
2. Nathalie: Und was willst du dort reinstellen? (And what do you want to put in there?)
3. Benedikt: Die Waschmaschine auf jeden Fall und vielleicht noch ein Bügeleisen. (Definitely the washing machine and maybe an iron, too.)
4. Nathalie: Das ist eine gute Idee. Der Raum ist aber ziemlich groß. Was sollen wir noch rein stellen? (That's a good idea. But the room is quite large. What else should we put in there?)
5. Benedikt: Wir können den Raum auch als Hobbyraum nutzen und vielleicht einen Kühlschrank und eine Mikrowelle reinstellen. (We could also use the room as a hobby room and maybe put a refrigerator and a microwave in there.)
6. Nathalie: Das finde ich super. Dann brauchen wir aber auch einen Tisch und Stühle. (I think that's great. But then we'll also need a table and some chairs.)
7. Benedikt: Du hast recht. Das Problem ist, dass es im Winter im Keller wahrscheinlich ziemlich kalt ist. (You're right. The problem is, the basement is probably quite cold in winter.)
8. Nathalie: Dann brauchen wir auf jeden Fall eine Heizung im Keller. (Then we'll definitely need a heater in the basement.)
9. Benedikt: Kannst du das dem Techniker sagen, wenn er am Montag kommt? (Can you tell the technician that when he comes on Monday?)
10. Nathalie: Ja, das mache ich. (Yes, I'll do that.)
