Ein Interiordesigner zeigt wie man den Tisch richtig deckt, damit alles ordentlich und schön aussieht.
An interior designer shows how to set the table properly so that everything looks tidy and beautiful.

Beim Eindecken mit Besteck ist es gut, von innen nach außen zu arbeiten. (When setting the table with cutlery, it is good to work from the inside out.)
Ihr startet am besten mit dem Messer auf der rechten Seite. (It’s best to start with the knife on the right side.)
Das Messer positioniert ihr einen Daumen breit von euren Tischsets entfernt. (Place the knife a thumb’s width away from your placemats.)
Danach kommt das zweite, kleinere Messer für die Vorspeise. (After that comes the second, smaller knife for the starter.)
Als weiteres Besteck legt ihr den Suppenlöffel dazu. (Next, you place the soup spoon.)
Auf die linke Seite kommt die Gabel für den Hauptgang. (On the left side goes the fork for the main course.)
Danach folgt die Gabel für die Vorspeise. (After that comes the fork for the starter.)
Der Dessertlöffel liegt oben. (The dessert spoon is placed at the top.)
Wir können hier ein Weißweinglas oder ein Rotweinglas hinstellen. (We can put a white wine glass or a red wine glass here.)
Zum Schluss kommt das Wasserglas. (Finally comes the water glass.)

Exercise 2: Dialogue

Instruction: Read the dialogue and answer the questions.

Fabian und Sabrina empfangen Gäste zum Abendessen und decken den Tisch.

Fabian and Sabrina are having guests over for dinner and are setting the table.
1. Fabian: Hilfst du mir, den Tisch zu decken? (Will you help me set the table?)
2. Sabrina: Klar. Wie viele Gäste sind es? (Sure. How many guests are there?)
3. Fabian: Wir sind zwölf. Kannst du noch zwei Stühle holen? Hier stehen nur zehn. (There are twelve of us. Can you get two more chairs? There are only ten here.)
4. Sabrina: Mache ich. Aber haben wir so viele Gläser? (I will. But do we have that many glasses?)
5. Fabian: Gläser sind kein Problem. Ich bin mir aber nicht sicher, ob wir genug Löffel haben. (Glasses are not a problem. But I'm not sure whether we have enough spoons.)
6. Sabrina: Ich fange an, den Tisch zu decken. Dann schauen wir. (I'll start setting the table. Then we'll see.)
7. Fabian: Okay: Löffel, Gläser und Gabeln haben wir genug. Nur Messer haben wir zu wenige. (Okay: we have enough spoons, glasses, and forks. We just don't have enough knives.)
8. Sabrina: Ich kann die Nachbarn fragen, ob sie Messer für uns haben. (I can ask the neighbors if they have knives for us.)
9. Fabian: Das wäre super. (That would be great.)
10. Sabrina: Kannst du schauen, dass die Gabeln links und die Löffel rechts vom Teller sind? (Can you make sure that the forks are to the left and the spoons to the right of the plate?)
