Exercise 1: Match a word

Instruction: Match each beginning with its correct ending.

La tovaglia è sul tavolo, vicino ai bicchieri. (The tablecloth is on the table, near the glasses.)
Il cucchiaio è sotto il tovagliolo, davanti al piatto. (The spoon is under the napkin, in front of the plate.)
Metto le posate qui, accanto alla ciotola. (I put the cutlery here, next to the bowl.)

(Dinner invitation at Marco’s)

Marco invita tre colleghi a cena a casa sua. Vuole una tavola semplice ma curata. Prima stende la nel soggiorno. Poi mette un piano per ogni persona e, se c'è la pasta, un piatto fondo sopra il piano. Davanti a ogni piatto posa un bianco. A sinistra del piatto c'è la ; a destra il e il . In alto a destra, vicino al piatto, Marco sistema un per l'acqua e un calice per il vino.

In cucina la con la pasta è sul fornello e la padella con le verdure è vicina. Il pane è in una sul tavolo, davanti ai piatti. Le posate di riserva sono in un cassetto sotto il piano di lavoro. Quando tutto è pronto, Marco guarda la tavola e pensa: “Ora la tavola è pronta, gli ospiti possono arrivare!”
Marco invites three colleagues to dinner at his home. He wants a simple but well-set table. First he spreads the tablecloth in the living room. Then he puts a flat plate for each person and, if there is pasta, a soup plate on top of the flat one. In front of each plate he places a white napkin. To the left of the plate there is the fork; to the right the knife and the spoon. At the top right, near the plate, Marco sets a glass for water and a wine glass for wine.

In the kitchen the pot with the pasta is on the stove and the pan with the vegetables is nearby. The bread is in a bowl on the table, in front of the plates. The spare cutlery is in a drawer under the worktop. When everything is ready, Marco looks at the table and thinks: “Now the table is ready, the guests can arrive!”
