Exercise 1: Listening comprehension

Instruction: Watch the video and recognize the vocabulary. Then answer the questions below.

Hay dos formas de poner los cubiertos en la mesa. (There are two ways to set cutlery on the table.)
Primero, se ponen los cubiertos poco a poco, en cada comida. (First, cutlery is placed little by little, during each course.)
Segundo, se ponen todos los cubiertos al principio. (Second, all the cutlery is placed at the start.)
En el lado derecho, de fuera hacia adentro, se colocan la cuchara de sopa, el tenedor para el pescado y el cuchillo para la carne. (On the right side, from the outside in, place the soup spoon, the fish fork, and the meat knife.)
En el lado izquierdo, se colocan los tenedores para el pescado y la carne. (On the left side, place the forks for fish and meat.)
Los cubiertos se ponen en el orden en que se van a usar. (Cutlery is laid out in the order it will be used.)
Los cubiertos para el postre se colocan delante del plato. (Dessert cutlery is placed in front of the plate.)
La cuchara y el cuchillo miran hacia la izquierda. (The spoon and the knife point left.)
El tenedor mira hacia la derecha. (The fork points right.)

Exercise 2: Dialogue

Instruction: Read the dialogue and answer the questions.

Ángel y Carla tienen huéspedes esta noche y necesitan preparar la mesa.

Ángel and Carla have guests tonight and need to set the table.
1. Ángel: Carla, ¿puedes ayudarme a poner la mesa? Los invitados vienen pronto. (Carla, can you help me set the table? The guests will be here soon.)
2. Carla: Claro, ¿qué hago? (Sure, what should I do?)
3. Ángel: Yo llevo los platos y los vasos, y tú puedes poner los cubiertos. (I'll bring the plates and glasses, and you can set the cutlery.)
4. Carla: Vale, voy. La cuchara a la derecha, el cuchillo aquí, el tenedor a la izquierda. (Okay, I’m going. Spoon on the right, knife here, fork on the left.)
5. Ángel: ¡Pero Carla, no! La cuchara y el cuchillo deben estar con el mango hacia la derecha. (But Carla, no! The spoon and knife need to have their handles facing right.)
6. Carla: Vale, los cambio ahora. (Okay, I’ll fix that now.)
7. Ángel: Y el tenedor se pone con el mango hacia la izquierda, no a la derecha. (And the fork’s handle should face left, not right.)
8. Carla: ¿Falta algo más? (Looks like I’m doing everything wrong. Can you tell me anything else?)
9. Ángel: Recuerda que los cubiertos para el postre se ponen delante del plato. (Remember, dessert cutlery goes in front of the plate.)
10. Carla: Ángel… ¿desde cuándo sabes poner la mesa tan bien? (Ángel… since when do you know how to set the table so well?)
