In Spain too, the clocks change twice a year. The aim is to adjust the hours of sunlight to the working day in order to save energy.

Exercise 1: Listening comprehension

Instruction: Watch the video and recognize the vocabulary. Then answer the questions below.

Cuando termina el verano, tenemos que retrasar una hora el reloj. (When summer ends, we have to set the clocks back one hour.)
¿Cuándo es el cambio de hora en octubre? (When is the clock change in October?)
El horario de invierno empieza el último domingo de octubre. (Winter time begins on the last Sunday in October.)
Esto quiere decir que en la madrugada del domingo 29, a las 3 de la mañana, hay que poner el reloj a las 2. (This means that in the early hours of Sunday the 29th, at 3 a.m., you must put the clock back to 2 a.m.)
Este día tendrá 25 horas en total. (That day will have 25 hours in total.)

Exercise 2: Dialogue

Instruction: Read the dialogue and answer the questions.

Marcos llama a su amigo Luis para quedar y tienen que coordinar sus horarios.

Marcos calls his friend Luis to meet up and they have to coordinate their schedules.
1. Marcos: ¡Hola, Luis! ¿Cómo estás? (Hello, Luis! How are you?)
2. Luis: ¡Hola, Marcos! Bien, ¿y tú? (Hello, Marcos! Fine, and you?)
3. Marcos: Muy bien, gracias. ¿Cuándo quedamos para tomar algo? (Very well, thank you. When shall we meet for a drink?)
4. Luis: ¿Qué tal a las siete de la tarde? (How about seven in the evening?)
5. Marcos: A las siete no puedo, tengo una reunión a las siete y cuarto. (I can't do seven, I have a meeting at quarter past seven.)
6. Luis: ¿Y a las ocho de la noche? (And at eight in the evening?)
7. Marcos: A las ocho está bien. ¿Nos vemos en el bar que está delante de tu oficina? (Eight is fine. Shall we meet at the bar in front of your office?)
8. Luis: Perfecto. ¿Cuándo terminas la reunión? (Perfect. When does your meeting end?)
9. Marcos: Termina a las ocho menos cuarto. (It ends at seven forty-five.)
10. Luis: Vale, así tienes tiempo para llegar al bar. (Ok, that way you have time to get to the bar.)
11. Marcos: ¡Nos vemos a las ocho! (See you at nine!)
