W Polsce są dwie ważne instytucje: Sejm i Senat. To władza ustawodawcza, czyli instytucje, które zajmują się prawem. Sejm przygotowuje ustawy i budżet państwa oraz kontroluje rząd. Senat sprawdza pracę Sejmu, dyskutuje i czasem proponuje poprawki. Nowe przepisy wracają potem do Sejmu do dalszej pracy.

W mniej niż minutę powiem ci, czym różni się Sejm od Senatu. (In less than a minute I will tell you how the Sejm differs from the Senate.)
Żeby zostać posłem w Sejmie, trzeba mieć dwadzieścia jeden lat. (To become a member of parliament in the Sejm, you must be twenty-one years old.)
Żeby zostać senatorem, trzeba mieć trzydzieści lat. (To become a senator, you must be thirty years old.)
Sejm i Senat to władza ustawodawcza w Polsce. (The Sejm and the Senate are the legislative power in Poland.)
Sejm tworzy nowe ustawy i budżet państwa. (The Sejm creates new laws and the state budget.)
Sejm też kontroluje rząd. (The Sejm also oversees the government.)
Senat kontroluje i opiniuje pracę Sejmu. (The Senate reviews and gives its opinion on the Sejm’s work.)
Gdy ustawa jest gotowa w Sejmie, idzie do Senatu. (When a law is ready in the Sejm, it goes to the Senate.)
W Senacie ludzie dyskutują i mogą zmieniać ustawę. (In the Senate, people discuss and can change the law.)
Potem Senat wysyła ustawę z powrotem do Sejmu. (Then the Senate sends the law back to the Sejm.)

W Polsce różne osoby mają różne prawa wyborcze. To zależy od obywatelstwa. Obywatel Polski może głosować w wyborach do Sejmu i Senatu, w wyborach na Prezydenta, w wyborach do Parlamentu Europejskiego oraz w wyborach lokalnych.

Obywatel Unii Europejskiej, który nie ma polskiego obywatelstwa, ma prawo do głosowania tylko w niektórych wyborach. Może głosować w wyborach do Parlamentu Europejskiego oraz w wyborach lokalnych, czyli do rady gminy i na wójta. Nie może głosować w wyborach do Sejmu i Senatu ani w wyborach na Prezydenta.
