Perfective future tense: pójdę, zrobię

What you are learning: future (completed) with perfective verbs

These forms (e.g. przeczytam, napiszesz, nauczą się) are the simple future of perfective verbs.

• Meaning: “I will do it and it will be finished.”
• Typical English: “I will read it (to the end) / I’ll write it / I’ll learn it.”
• Common time words: jutro, wieczorem, za godzinę, do piątku.

Key idea: perfective = no present tense

• Perfective verbs in Polish do not have a real “right now” meaning.
• So the form that looks like present (e.g. przeczytam) is normally used as future.
• If you want “I am reading/writing/learning (in progress)”, you usually need an imperfective verb instead.

A quick self-check: build the form in 3 steps

1. Choose the perfective infinitive (often with a prefix): przeczytać, napisać, nauczyć się.
2. Find the stem from a known form in the table: przeczyta-, napisz-, naucz-.
3. Add the personal ending for your pattern.

Common pitfalls (and how to avoid them)

• 1) Mixing imperfective and perfective
  

  Jutro czytam raport do końca. (sounds like “I’m reading tomorrow”, often not the intended meaning)

  Jutro przeczytam raport do końca. (finished goal)

• 2) Forgetting “się” (it stays with the verb)
  

  Po pracy nauczę tych słówek.

  Po pracy nauczę się tych słówek.

• 3) Confusing -m/-sz with -ę/-esz
  

  Use the table: przeczytam (not przeczytę), but napiszę (not napisam).

When these forms sound most natural

• Plans with a clear result: Dzisiaj napiszemy podsumowanie spotkania.
• Deadlines: Do piątku nauczą się zasad BHP.
• Sequence of tasks: Najpierw zrobię zakupy, potem przygotuję przekąski.
