For many nouns, the locative plural ends in -ach:

Good news: in this pattern, gender does not change the ending. Masculine/feminine/neuter all take -ach.

When to use it (and which prepositions trigger it)

  • Rozmawiamy o kursach. (We talk about courses.)
  • Czytam o szkołach. (I read about schools.)
• w + locative = in
  • Informacje są w mailach. (The information is in emails.)
• na + locative = on/at (often events, places, activities)
  • Jesteśmy na zajęciach. (We are in class.)
  • Ona jest na kursach. (She is attending courses.)

Common learner trap: don’t use English logic (“in courses”). Polish often prefers na kursach (attending courses) and na zajęciach (in class).

How to form it: a practical 3-step checklist

1. Decide the meaning: “Where?” or “About what?”
2. Pick the trigger: usually w / na / o.
3. Make it plural locative: add -ach (and adjust the stem if needed).

Spelling changes you will actually see

Sometimes the ending is easy, but the noun changes a little before -ach:

• -a often drops: szkoła → szkoł- + -ach = szkołach
• -ie / -ęcie may change to -ci-: zajęcie → zajęc- + -ach = zajęciach

Tip: If your form looks like the table pattern, you’re usually safe at A2.
