URL: Hablar sobre el cambio climático

Un estudio del IGEO (CSIC-UCM) analizó la DANA que afectó al sureste de España el 29 de octubre de 2024. Ese día se registraron precipitaciones excepcionales y inundaciones graves, con valores de hasta 720 litros por metro cuadrado en 12 horas en Valencia.

Los investigadores concluyen que el cambio climático no causó la DANA, pero sí incrementó la intensidad de la lluvia: en algunas zonas las precipitaciones habrían sido hasta un 20% menores sin el calentamiento global. Señalan que el mar más cálido aporta más humedad, lo que hace las tormentas más lluviosas, aunque esta señal tiene todavía incertidumbre por la elevada variabilidad del clima mediterráneo.

El equipo combinó varios métodos de atribución y defiende que resulta evidente que sumar evidencias mejora la comunicación del riesgo. Recomiendan aplicar estos resultados para reforzar sistemas de alerta, planificar infraestructuras resistentes y así reducir el impacto medioambiental de futuras catástrofes naturales.
