Asunto: Resumen de tu consulta y pautas
Hola, Javier:
Dra. Marta Ruiz
Subject: Summary of your appointment and guidelines
Hi, Javier:
I’m writing to put in writing today’s diagnosis: a picture compatible with bronchitis (probably viral). For now there are no signs of pneumonia. Rest, hydration, and paracetamol if there is fever or pain.
- Inhaler: 2 puffs every 8 h for 5 days.
- If shortness of breath appears, high fever for more than 48 h, or you get worse, go to the emergency room.
- As soon as you feel better, resume gentle activity and avoid tobacco.
If you still have a cough in 7–10 days, request an appointment for a check-up.
Best regards,
Dr. Marta Ruiz

(Could you clarify whether I should use the inhaler at night as well?)
-
(The moment I notice that I’m getting worse, I’ll go to the emergency room; in the meantime, could you recommend…?)
Javier
Hello, Dr. Ruiz:
Thank you for the summary. I confirm that I have understood the diagnosis of bronchitis and the guidelines: rest, hydration, paracetamol if there is fever or pain, and the inhaler (2 puffs every 8 hours for 5 days). The moment I notice shortness of breath or if the high fever lasts more than 48 hours, I will go to the emergency room.
I just wanted to clarify two things:
1) Should I use the inhaler during the night as well if a dose is due, or can I adjust the schedule so I don’t have to wake up?
2) If in 7–10 days I still have a cough but no fever, should I request an in-person appointment or is a phone consultation sufficient for the check-up?
As soon as I feel better, I will resume gentle activity as you indicate.
Best regards,
Javier
