Platz drei geht an Nordrhein-Westfalen, das bevölkerungsreichste Bundesland. (Third place goes to North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous federal state.)
Zwischen Rheinland, Ruhrgebiet und Westfalen leben dort über achtzehn Millionen Menschen. (Between the Rhineland, the Ruhr region and Westphalia, more than eighteen million people live there.)
Als Reiseziele sind Städte wie Köln und Düsseldorf sehr attraktiv. (As travel destinations, cities like Cologne and Düsseldorf are very attractive.)

Es ist bekannt für Autos aus Deutschland und die Kuckucksuhr aus dem Schwarzwald. (It is known for cars from Germany and the cuckoo clock from the Black Forest.)
Besucher mögen Heidelberg, Stuttgart, den Schwarzwald und den Bodensee. (Visitors like Heidelberg, Stuttgart, the Black Forest and Lake Constance.)

Dort gibt es jedes Jahr Millionen Besucher aus dem In- und Ausland. (Every year, there are millions of visitors from within Germany and from abroad.)
Bayern begeistert mit Kultur und Natur, der Landeshauptstadt München, den Städten Nürnberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, den Alpen, den Märchenschlössern König Ludwigs II. und vielen Biergärten. (Bavaria inspires with culture and nature, the state capital Munich, the cities of Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, the Alps, the fairy-tale castles of King Ludwig II and many beer gardens.)

Zwei Touristen treffen sich im Zug und reden über ihre Reisepläne in Deutschland.

Two tourists meet on the train and talk about their travel plans in Germany.
1. Jonas: Hallo, wohin reisen Sie? (Hello, where are you traveling to?)
2. Sandra: Ich komme vom Düsseldorfer Flughafen und fahre jetzt nach Köln. (I’m coming from Düsseldorf Airport and I’m now traveling to Cologne.)
3. Jonas: Was für ein Zufall! Ich fahre auch dorthin und dann weiter nach München. (What a coincidence! I’m going there too and then on to Munich.)
4. Sandra: Meine Route geht von Köln über Bonn und dann zurück nach Düsseldorf. (My route goes from Cologne via Bonn and then back to Düsseldorf.)
5. Jonas: Ich fahre zuerst nach München. Danach möchte ich in die Alpen und das Schloss Neuschwanstein besuchen. (I’m traveling to Munich first. After that, I’d like to go to the Alps and visit Neuschwanstein Castle.)
6. Sandra: Ich bereise vor allem Städte. NRW ist, finde ich, besser für Städtetrips als Bayern. (I mainly travel to cities. NRW, I think, is better for city trips than Bavaria.)
7. Jonas: Das stimmt. Bayern ist typischer für Berge und Natur als für große Städte. Wie lange sind Sie unterwegs? (That’s true. Bavaria is more typical for mountains and nature than for big cities. How long are you traveling for?)
8. Sandra: Ich habe online geplant und reise insgesamt fünf Tage. (I planned online and I’m traveling for a total of five days.)
9. Jonas: Das ist aber kurz. Ich bleibe zwei Wochen in Bayern. (That’s quite short. I’m staying two weeks in Bavaria.)
10. Sandra: Da haben Sie Recht. Ich habe auch viele Pläne. Ich möchte Museen besuchen und die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten ansehen. (You’re right about that. I also have a lot of plans. I’d like to visit museums and see the most important sights.)
11. Jonas: Ich möchte viel wandern, die Schlösser von König Ludwig ansehen und Aktivitäten in der Natur machen. (I want to do a lot of hiking, see King Ludwig’s castles, and do activities in nature.)
12. Sandra: Dann wünsche ich Ihnen viel Spaß dabei! Auf Wiedersehen! (Then I wish you a lot of fun with that! Goodbye!)
13. Jonas: Dankeschön, das wünsche ich Ihnen auch! Tschüss! (Thank you, I wish you the same! Bye!)
