(You would be proud if my idea were successful.)
Exercise 2: Multiple Choice
Instruction:
Choose the sentence that is grammatically correct and expresses a hypothetical future with "wenn" in the subjunctive II.
1.
Incorrect main clause: After a hypothetical "wenn"-clause, the main clause uses subjunctive II with "würde" + infinitive.
Incorrect tense: The subordinate clause requires subjunctive II ("hätte"), not the present tense.
2.
Incorrect construction: After "wenn" in subjunctive II, "hätte" is used, not "würde haben."
Incorrect tense: The "wenn"-clause requires subjunctive II ("hätte"), not the present tense.
3.
Incorrect verb form in the subordinate clause: subjunctive II ("wäre") must be used, not the present tense.
Incorrect word order in the main clause: it must be "I would," not "would I."
4.
Incorrect construction: After "to" ("um"), the accusative ("me") and the infinitive follow, not the nominative personal pronoun.
Incorrect verb form: The sentence does not fit a subjunctive II wish; "so that I can concentrate better" is inappropriate.
Exercise 3: Rewrite the phrases
Instruction:
Rewrite the sentences so that they express a wish, dream or idea using “would + infinitive”, “were” or “had” (often with gladly/preferably).
