Algo, alguien, nada, nadie, alguno, ninguno son pronombres indefinidos que se usan para hablar de personas o cosas no específicas.

Choose the right idea: thing, person, or quantity

algo / nada → a thing (what?)
alguien / nadie → a person (who?)
alguno/a(s) / ninguno/a(s) → one or more from a set (which one(s)?) + they link to a noun

Quick check: If you can answer with “what?” use algo/nada. If it’s “who?” use alguien/nadie. If it’s “which one(s)/any (of these)?” use alguno/ninguno + a noun.

The key contrast: “nothing” vs “none”

Nada	No + verb → “nothing” (no action / no thing)	No necesito nada.
Ninguno/a	No + noun → “none / not any” (of a type)	No queda ninguna cuchilla limpia.

nada stands alone (it replaces “a thing”).
ninguno/a usually sits next to a noun (it replaces “any” + noun).

Typical mistake: ~~No quiero ninguno de maquillaje.~~ ✅ No quiero nada de maquillaje. / ✅ No quiero ningún producto de maquillaje.

How negatives work: one negative is enough

Before the verb: no no needed.
- ✅ Nadie vino a la cita.
- ✅ Nada funciona hoy.
After the verb: you must add no.
- ✅ No vino nadie a la cita.
- ✅ No quiero nada.

Do not double the negative incorrectly: ~~No nadie vino.~~ (wrong)

“Algo / alguien” vs “alguno/a”: what exactly is unspecified?

algo / alguien = “something/someone”, but you don’t name it.
- ✅ Necesito algo más discreto.
- ✅ Alguien recomendó este corte.
alguno/a = “some/any (one)”, chosen from a set of options; it connects to a noun.
- ✅ ¿Tienes alguna crema suave?
- ✅ ¿Hay algún horario disponible hoy?

Think: algo is a “free-floating thing”. alguno/a points to “one of these” (even if the list is not explicit).

Agreement and shortened forms (the ones you’ll actually use)

alguno	masc. singular	alguno
algún	before a masculine singular noun	¿Tienes algún gel?
ninguno	masc. singular	ninguno
ningún	before a masculine singular noun	No queda ningún turno.
alguna / ninguna	fem. singular	alguna crema / ninguna barra

algún / ningún are very common in conversation.
Plural (algunos/as, ningunos/as) exists, but in daily speech you often use no + noun instead: No tengo citas disponibles (very natural).

“Nada más” and “nadie más”: “nothing/no one else”

nada más = nothing else
- ✅ No necesito nada más.
nadie más = no one else
- ✅ No espera nadie más en la peluquería.
- ✅ En recepción no hay nadie más esperando.

Common mix-up: ~~no hay nada más esperando~~ (sounds like “no other thing is waiting”). Use nadie más for people.

Exceptions!

Nada is used for things; nadie for people.
Nada = no + verb. ≠ Ninguno = no + noun.
