Usamos que y quien como pronombres relativos para retomar personas o cosas ya mencionadas y qué y cuál como pronombres interrogativos o exclamativos, en preguntas directas o indirectas.
(We use que and quien as relative pronouns to refer back to people or things already mentioned, and qué and cuál as interrogative or exclamatory pronouns in direct or indirect questions.)
- Que refers to things and people, quien refers only to people.
- Qué is used to ask or exclaim, directly or indirectly; cuál is used to choose among already known options.

Exceptions!
- Quien only appears with a preposition or set off by a comma.
- Cuál does not have an exclamatory use; only qué is used for exclamations.
- Cuál cannot be used before a noun. It is used with de + plural (cuál de los hoteles reservamos) or directly with the verb (cuál reservamos).
