Pretérito indefinido - irregular forms

- Some verbs change vowels (dormir ⇒ durmió)
- Other verbs change pronunciation or spelling (huir ⇒ huyó)
- Strong preterites use a special verb form (decir ⇒ dijo)

| Tocar (to touch) | c ⇒ qu (yo) | Yo toqué, tú tocaste, él tocó, nosotros tocamos, vosotros tocasteis, ellos tocaron. |
| Apagar (to turn off) | g ⇒ gu (yo) | Yo apagué, tú apagaste, él apagó, nosotros apagamos, vosotros apagasteis, ellos apagaron. |
| Huir (to flee) | i ⇒ y (3.ª persona) | Yo hui, tú huiste, él huyó, nosotros huimos, vosotros huisteis, ellos huyeron. |
| Traer (to bring) | Cambio de raíz ⇒ traj- | Yo traje, tú trajiste, él trajo, nosotros trajimos, vosotros trajisteis, ellos trajeron. |

| Poner (to put) | Cambio de raíz ⇒ pus- | Yo puse, tú pusiste, él puso, nosotros pusimos, vosotros pusisteis, ellos pusieron. |
Exceptions!
- With non-perfective verbs, the pretérito indefinido marks the exact moment (lo supe ⇒ I understood / I found out at that moment).
