What you’re really choosing: “will” vs “would”

Spanish often uses the same two forms for several meanings:

Futuro simple (e.g., visitaré, estará)
Condicional simple (e.g., visitaría, estaría)

Your decision is usually about time (real future vs future seen from the past) or about attitude (politeness, hypothesis, probability).

Fast formation reminder (and what to watch)

Futuro	infinitive + -é, -ás, -á, -emos, -éis, -án
Condicional	infinitive + -ía, -ías, -ía, -íamos, -íais, -ían

Key point: you keep the whole infinitive: visitar + emos → visitaremos.
Accent matters: estará, empezaría, podría. Missing the accent is considered a spelling mistake.

When to use the futuro simple (3 common uses)

Real future plans / scheduled actions
- Mañana visitaremos la galería de arte.
- La visita empezará a las diez. (direct statement about the future)
Probability about the present (English: “must be / probably”)
- ¿Dónde está Jorge? Estará en la galería. (= He’s probably there now.)
- No contesta. Estará en una reunión.
Assumptions / confident guesses
- Serán las cinco. (= It’s probably around five.)

When to use the condicional simple (3 core uses)

Polite requests (especially in professional/formal contexts)
- ¿Podría explicarme la historia de esta obra?
- ¿Podría decirme dónde está la sala de Goya?
Tip: ¿Podrías...? is polite but more informal (to a colleague you know well).
Hypothesis / evaluation (English: “would”)
- El museo sería interesante, pero no estoy seguro.
- Valoraríamos más el cuadro con más información.
Future in the past (reported speech after a past verb)
- El guía dijo que empezaría la visita a las diez.
Think: “He said it would start at ten.”
