Health Center — Pregnancy follow-up

If you are pregnant, your care team (midwife and gynecologist) will arrange prenatal appointments to monitor your health and the baby’s. It is common to have an ultrasound around week 12 and another around week 20; in some cases a third is scheduled near the end of pregnancy. During visits your blood pressure, weight and symptoms are checked, and habits such as diet and exercise are discussed. If you have questions about medications or sexual activity, consult your care team before changing anything on your own.

Blood tests are also scheduled and, if appropriate, screenings to rule out gestational diabetes. Keep all reports: those results may be important if you are referred to the hospital. If you have been given an estimated due date, remember it can change. Go to emergency care if you notice bleeding, fever, or if the baby moves much less than usual. For any non-urgent concerns, make an appointment with your midwife.
