What this pattern does: reaction + que + subjunctive

Use this structure when you react emotionally to someone else’s action (or a situation you don’t control).

Reaction (your feeling) + que + other action (subjunctive)
It’s very common after: me alegra que, me encanta que, me molesta que, me preocupa que, odio que…

Meaning	Spanish structure	Example

The key idea: two “subjects” (two different people/things)

Most of the time, you need subjunctive here because there are two different subjects:

I react (me alegra / me preocupa / odio…)
Someone/something does the action (la lista… incluya / el anfitrión… recomiende)

How to build it (step by step)

Start with the reaction (me alegra / me molesta / me preocupa / odio…).
Add que.
Say the other action with present subjunctive.

Odio que los oyentes ignoren las recomendaciones.

Typical mistakes (and how to self-correct)

Mistake 1: using indicative after “que”
~~Me preocupa que la reseña negativa influye en las suscripciones.~~

Correct: Me preocupa que la reseña negativa influya en las suscripciones.
Mistake 2: forgetting the subject change
If the same person does both actions, Spanish often switches to infinitive (no “que”).

Same subject: Me alegra tener tiempo para escuchar el podcast.

Different subject: Me alegra que tú tengas tiempo para escuchar el podcast.
Mistake 3: confusing “me gusta” as a simple fact
Here, me gusta que… is a reaction, so it triggers the subjunctive.

Correct: Me gusta que el anfitrión haga preguntas directas.

Fast self-check before you choose the verb form

Do I express a reaction/feeling (happy, annoyed, worried, etc.)?
Is there a new subject after que (someone/something else)?
If yes → use que + present subjunctive.

Shortcut: Reaction word + que = your brain should immediately look for subjunctive.
