Konektory w języku polskim to: dlatego że, potem, też, też nie.

What these connectors do (in one line)

  • dlatego że = gives the reason (because)
  • potem = shows the next step (then / afterwards)
  • też = adds agreement in a positive sentence (also / too)
  • też nie = adds agreement in a negative sentence (also not / not…either)

1) "dlatego że" = because (reason)

  • Use it when sentence 2 explains why sentence 1 happens.
  • Very common pattern at A1: [statement], dlatego że [reason].
Pattern Example Meaning
Nie + verb, dlatego że… Nie idę dziś do parku, dlatego że pada deszcz. I’m not going to the park today because it’s raining.
Verb, dlatego że… Pracuję w domu, dlatego że mam dużo spotkań online. I work from home because I have many online meetings.
  • Comma: In this course level, treat it as: comma before dlatego że when it links two parts of one sentence.
  • Typical mistake: Using dlatego alone.
    • Nie idę dziś do parku, dlatego pada deszcz.
    • Correct: Nie idę dziś do parku, dlatego że pada deszcz.

2) "potem" = then / afterwards (sequence)

  • Use it to describe Step 1 → Step 2.
  • Often appears with najpierw (first), but it can also stand alone.
Time order Example Meaning
Najpierw… potem… Najpierw wysyłam raport, potem dzwonię do klienta. First I send the report, then I call the client.
… , potem … Sadzą roślinę, potem podlewają ją wodą. They plant a plant, then they water it.
  • Word order tip: Put potem where English would say “then”: usually before the second verb.

3) "też" = also / too (positive agreement)

  • Use też when you add that the same thing is true for another person/thing.
  • It is flexible, but at A1 the safest place is: after the subject.
Context Example Meaning
Me too — Lubię herbatę. — Ja też lubię herbatę. — I like tea. — I do too.
Someone else also… Moja koleżanka też pracuje z domu. My colleague also works from home.
  • Typical mistake: using też with a negative sentence.
    • Ja też nie lubię kawy. (This is actually fine and very common in spoken Polish, but in this unit you practise the clearer A1 pair też vs też nie.)
    • Preferred here: Ja też nie lubię kawy.

4) "też nie" = not…either (negative agreement)

  • Use it to agree with a negative statement: same negative for me / for someone else.
  • Safe pattern: Ja też nie + verb …
Context Example Meaning
Me neither — Nie piję kawy. — Ja też nie piję kawy. — I don’t drink coffee. — Me neither.
Someone else doesn’t either Mój szef też nie pije kawy w pracy. My boss doesn’t drink coffee at work either.
