Future tense – form "będzie"

Czas przyszły – forma "będzie"

Forma "będzie" to forma bezosobowa czasownika "być" używana do wyrażania zdarzeń w czasie przyszłym.

(The form "będzie" is an impersonal form of the verb "być" used to express events in the future tense.)

When to use będzie (future, impersonal)

Use będzie when you talk about the future and there is no clear person (I/you/we).

  • Weather: future forecasts
  • Situations/events: “there will be …”
  • General conditions: “it will be …”

Think: English it will be / there will be.

The basic pattern (easy formula)

Time expression Core What happens / what it’s like
Jutro (tomorrow) będzie zimno / ciepło / burza
W weekend (at the weekend) będzie padać deszcz / wiać (windy)
W przyszłym tygodniu (next week) będzie spotkanie / słonecznie

Two most common structures

  1. będzie + adjective/adverb (a condition)

    • Jutro będzie zimno. = Tomorrow it will be cold.
    • W weekend będzie ciepło. = It will be warm at the weekend.

  2. będzie + noun (an event/thing: “there will be …”)

    • Jutro będzie burza. = There will be a storm tomorrow.
    • W przyszłym tygodniu będzie spotkanie w biurze. = There will be a meeting at the office next week.

Future “it will rain”: będzie padać

For actions like rain/snow, Polish often uses:

będzie + infinitive (dictionary form)

  • W przyszłym tygodniu będzie padać deszcz. = It will be raining / It will rain next week.
  • Zimą będzie padać śnieg. = It will snow in winter.

Pay attention: after będzie, use padać (not *pada*).

W weekend będzie pada deszcz. ❌

W weekend będzie padać deszcz. ✅

Time expressions: what to copy as a “chunk”

  • jutro = tomorrow
  • pojutrze = the day after tomorrow
  • w weekend = at the weekend
  • w przyszłym tygodniu / miesiącu / roku = next week / month / year
  • wiosną / latem / jesienią / zimą = in spring / summer / autumn / winter

Tip: learn these as fixed phrases; don’t try to change the endings at A1.

Typical learner mistakes (and quick fixes)

  • Wrong form: mixing “I will” with “it will”

    Jutro będę zimno. ❌

    Jutro będzie zimno. ✅

  • Present instead of future:

    Jutro jest zimno. ❌

    Jutro będzie zimno. ✅

  • Missing “będzie”:

    W przyszłym tygodniu spotkanie. ❌ (too telegraphic for A1)

    W przyszłym tygodniu będzie spotkanie. ✅

Self-check: can I build the sentence?

  1. Choose a time expression

    jutro / pojutrze / w weekend / w przyszłym tygodniu / zimą

  2. Add będzie

  3. Finish with:

    • zimno / ciepło / słonecznie (condition)
    • burza / mgła / spotkanie (thing/event)
    • padać deszcz / padać śnieg (action)

If your sentence answers “What will it be like?” or “What will there be?” — będzie is usually the right choice.
