Exercise 1: Dialogue

Instruction: 1. Read the dialogue in pairs. 2. Memorize the phrases by covering the translation. 3. Cover one speaker’s lines, give alternative answers with your teacher, and write them down.

Pedro y Ana van de tapas a un bar, hablan de lo que van a pedir. ¡La gastronomía española es deliciosa!

Pedro and Ana go for tapas to a bar, they talk about what they are going to order. Spanish cuisine is delicious!
1. Pedro: ¿Quieres probar las croquetas? (Do you want to try the croquettes?)
2. Ana: Sí, me encantan las croquetas. También quiero una ración de jamón. (Yes, I love croquettes. I also want a portion of ham.)
3. Pedro: Buena idea. Yo voy a pedir un pincho de tortilla de patata. (Good idea. I am going to order a Spanish omelette skewer.)
4. Ana: Perfecto. Pediría patatas fritas también, pero no tenemos mucha hambre. (Perfect. I would also order fries, but we're not very hungry.)
5. Pedro: Es verdad, creo que con esto estaremos llenos. (That's true, I think with this we will be full.)
6. Ana: Tienes razón, pero las patatas bravas parecen muy buenas... (You're right, but the spicy potatoes look very good...)
7. Pedro: Sí, las pediría, pero creo que hoy no probaremos nada dulce después. (Yes, I would order them, but I think today we won't try anything sweet afterwards.)
8. Ana: Es verdad, es mejor probar más tapas la próxima vez. (That's true, it's better to try more tapas next time.)
9. Pedro: Sí, así disfrutamos hoy con el jamón y las croquetas. (Yes, that way we enjoy the ham and croquettes today.)
10. Ana: Y con la tortilla también. (And the omelette too.)
11. Pedro: Sí, y vamos a tomar algo. ¿Qué te apetece? (Yes, and let's have something to drink. What do you feel like?)
12. Ana: Una coca-cola con hielo para ayudarme a comer todo esto. (A cola with ice to help me eat all this.)
13. Pedro: ¡Muy buena idea! Yo también tomaré lo mismo. (Very good idea! I will have the same.)
14. Ana: Perfecto, llamo para pedir. (Perfect, I'll call to order.)
